TE Connectivity adapters & band straps

October 29, 2013: TE Connectivity (TE) has announced the approval to be on the military qualified parts list (QPL) for AS85049/82 to /90 band strap adapters and /128 band straps. AS85049 is a military specification for connector accessories designed to work with military connectors like those built to MIL-DTL-38999.

"We've seen the military in North America migrating to using a common connector and adapter system across their services. The M85049 adapter product has become that standard. TE offers a wide selection of sizes, materials and finishes as well as corrosion-resistant steel bands in all three styles to allow customers to use existing tooling," said Daniel Redmon, Product Manager, TE Connectivity, Global Aerospace, Defense & Marine. "We're excited to offer our customers a line of AS85049 compliant products, as well as adapters in configurations and finishes to help meet any challenge."

The M85049 band straps and adapters feature side-entry band straps, making them easier to install and repair, and providing high-reliability under vibration due to their self-coupling locking nut. The product is used at the back of a connector to provide shielding, screening and grounding to a cable harness, which helps provide EMI and RFI protection. The adapters are offered in straight, 45-degree and 90-degree formats.

TE's approved products include band straps and adapters for M85049 (/88-90) Code 40, Code 41 (/85-87), and Code 54 (/82-84) in all three angles in cadmium-plated and electroless-plated aluminum. Also included are narrow 1/8 inch (/128-7 and 8) and inch (/128-1 to -4) bands. This product is designed to work with MIL-DTL-38999 Series III and IV, MIL-DTL-38999 Series I and II, AS50151, MIL-DTL-26482 Series II, SAE AS81703 Series III, MIL-DTL-83723 Series III.

These band straps and adaptors are ideal for internal and external cables assemblies within the aerospace market, as well as ground vehicles for cable assemblies in the defence market.
