PM Modi reaches Ladakh to review the situation
The visit comes in light of recent clashes between the armies of India and China in Galwan Valley.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a visit to Ladakh on Friday (July 3, 2020), weeks after the violent clashes between the soldiers of the Indian and Chinese army. 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives in the violent face-off at Galwan on the night of June 15-16, 2020. This happened during an attempt by the Chinese troops to unilaterally change the status quo during the de-escalation in eastern Ladakh. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane also accompanied the Prime Minister (PM). Earlier, the Defence Minister was reportedly scheduled to visit Ladakh today to review the preparedness of the army amid the ongoing standoff with China.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane also accompanied the Prime Minister (PM). Earlier, the Defence Minister was reportedly scheduled to visit Ladakh today to review the preparedness of the army amid the ongoing standoff with China.
Senior officers briefed the PM at a forward position in Nimu amid ongoing tension with China. Having reached Ladakh on Friday morning, he is reportedly interacting with Army, Air Force and ITBP personnel at present. Surrounded by the Zanskar range and on the banks of the Indus, this is among the tough terrains, located at 11,000 feet. The PM’s visit is aimed at him assessing the ground situation near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) amid heightened stress in the region. This visit will also serve as a significant morale booster for the soldiers who are constantly fighting for the nation in such extreme terrains.
India and China have been involved in talks to ease the ongoing border tensions since last month, however the situation at the India-China border still remains tense.
