The indigenisation of the propulsion system of the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile is a big shot in the arm for the Make in India agenda

India has announced the indigenisation of the propulsion system of the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile. This is a major landmark in the indigenisation of the missile, which has jointly been developed with Russia.

The latest variant of this missile featuring Made in India propulsion system, airframe and power supply was successfully test fired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha on September 30. "The missile was successfully test-fired for its full range of 290-km during the launch jointly conducted by DRDO and BrahMos Aerospace," the Ministry of Defence announced in a press statement.

"With this successful mission, the indigenous content in the formidable weapon has reached a high value, thus bolstering India's defence indigenisation and the flagship 'Make in India' programme," the statement added.

DG (BrahMos) Dr Sudhir Kumar Mishra, Director DRDL Dr Dashrath Ram and Director ITR Dr BK Das coordinated and witnessed the entire mission at the launch site and termed the successful flight test as a landmark achievement in enhancing India's "Make in India" capabilities.
